iOS Updates

In Spring of 2021 Apple released iOS 14. iOS 14 created a more transparent experience for users as to where their data is shared. A notification immediately popped up on users’ phones once the update was complete asking them if they want to turn off App Tracking.

Not only does this update not allow Facebook, Instagram, Google, etc to collect and track your data - it also interferes with your email marketing statistics. With updated algorithm’s comes a lot of headaches for small business owners. However, we do have some happy updates for you this month!

- Facebook and Instagram will be mirroring TikTok’s strategy of showing users content from pages they don’t currently follow in the newsfeed! User’s no longer have to be following you to see your content. Yay!
- Facebook is limiting big box chains available ad space to free up space for small businesses running paid ads.
- Location is becoming even more important - and Facebook & Instagram will begin showing your content to people who are physically near your location. Make sure your location is listed so this can work for you.

Instagram Social Media Marketing Updates

According to Instagram CEO, Adam Mosseri, “First, choose an appropriate handle and profile name and include relevant keywords in your bio. If your business or account is tied to a location, try to include that information in your bio as well. Lastly, use relevant keywords and hashtags in the caption - not in the comments.”

New updates to increase your organic reach on Instagram:

1. Instagram Map Search - now available!
List your location in your bio so you show up in the map search feed for local users or tourists in your area.
2. Hide Post Likes - now available! Hide Post Likes - now available!
Hide likes before you post by selecting > Advanced Settings > Turn off Likes. Hide likes after you post by tapping the 3 dots and selecting “Hide Likes”. This prevents competitors from sniffing out your likes/followers from your posts.
3. Product Tags - Instagram Shop Product Tags - Instagram Shop
ALL INSTAGRAM USERS CAN NOW TAG YOUR PRODUCTS IN THEIR PERSONAL PAGE POSTS! Encourage your customers to tag your products when they share photos of your products.
4. Pinned Posts - now available! Pinned Posts - now available!
Pinned Posts should include any upcoming events, specials/sales, or your basic company information for quick and easy access.
