Should my business be on Threads?

Threads has entered the Chat - should your business join?

When a new social platform emerges - it's easy to think you need your business to also be on that platform. But does it make sense for your business to begin "threading" at this point in time?

Let's learn more.

What is Threads?

Threads is a new app, built by the Instagram team, for sharing text updates and joining public conversations. You log in using your Instagram account and posts can be up to 500 characters long and include links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length.

Threads allows for Keyword Searches in Australia and New Zealand, and will soon be available in Argentina, India, Mexico, the UK and the US.

Threads is available via Mobile Application and on Desktop.

Who is using Threads?

There are now an estimated 130 million Thread Users since first launching in July of 2023. Threads acquired their first 100 million users in less than a week of launching.

Since July 2023 - user engagement has slowed. Threads daily active users fell from 49 Million to 23.6 Million.

Major brands such as Mr. Beast, Starbucks, and Nike have all hopped on the Threads Trend - creating short-form engaging content to interact with users experimenting on the new platform.

Engagement rates on Threads compared to Instagram or Facebook are increasing with content revolving around asking questions to promote community.

Brands are using Threads in a style similar to Twitter - building a community in a light-hearted, fun, and friendly manner.

How do I set up my Threads account?

A Threads account must be linked to an active Instagram account. If your business has built a following on Instagram - each user will be invited and notified to follow you on Threads as well - organically building your follower count overnight.

So, should my small business be on Threads?

The short answer is - not at this time.

With Keywords still unavailable in the USA, and Location Tagging not a feature, it may be hard for your local business to show up in a new audience's feed.

Investing time and money into your Threads strategy just doesn't quite make sense for small business owners at this time.
